As we enter the summer months, we need to be aware of the risk for another outbreak of West Nile Virus and the risk of Zika.
The Denton County Health Emergency Alert Response Team (HEART) recommends the 4 D’s to minimize the risk of mosquito bites:
- DRAIN – standing water in your yard and neighborhood to cut mosquito breeding sites.
- DEET – is an ingredient to look for in your insect repellent (check for 10-30%).
- DUSK & DAWN – are the times of day you should try to stay indoors; this is when mosquitoes are most active.
- DRESS – in long sleeves and pants when you’re outside, and spray thin clothing with repellent.
