A certificate of occupancy certifies a building's compliance with applicable building codes and other laws, and is required to occupy or use any single-family, two-family, multifamily, or nonresidential building.
A certificate of occupancy is required for:
- Initial occupancy of a new building;
- Building remodel/alteration or expansion/addition;
- Change in tenant business/entity name;
- Change in occupancy (use) of a building; or
- Change in ownership of a building.
